Deborah T. Wilson, a longtime community improvement advocate, has been named chief impact officer at United Way of Forsyth County. She is responsible for leading the development, implementation and evaluation of United Way of Forsyth County’s community impact strategy for advancing quality of life in the areas of education, financial stability, health, basic needs and the pursuit for the expansion of thriving individuals and neighborhoods in Forsyth County.

Wilson has extensive leadership experience in building better communities through the work of nonprofit organizations. She most recently worked as executive director of the Better Community Development Corporation, Inc. in Wilmington, Del. In that role, she was dedicated to enhancing the community’s quality of life through programs focused on education, self-sufficiency and family empowerment. In addition to implementation of the mission and financial objectives, she oversaw day-to-day operations, regulatory compliance, liaison with governmental bodies, fundraising, partnership building, management of development projects, and completion of long term plans.

Wilson is a former president and CEO of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League in Wilmington, Del., and the Urban League of the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Springs, Colo. She also served as vice president of community investment at United Way of the Pikes Peak Region. Wilson earned a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree in business and economics from Hollins University in Roanoke, Va.
